As Mental Health Awareness Week approaches from May 12 to 18, a children’s charity in Glasgow, Children First, is encouraging parents and carers who are concerned about their child’s mental health to reach out for assistance.
A recent survey commissioned by Children First revealed that 92% of young people aged 11 to 25 in Scotland expressed concerns about their mental health. The survey also highlighted that less than one in four children felt that childhood is better now compared to when their parents were young.
Last year, over two-thirds of those who contacted Children First’s national support line expressed worry about a child’s emotional well-being. The charity provided expert and confidential support to more than 2,500 families and helped over 9,400 people.
Simon McGowan, Assistant Director at Children First, stressed the importance of reaching out, saying, “Every day, our support line team is helping more and more families who are desperately worried about their child’s mental health. No family should struggle alone. Whatever your concern about your child, we are here to help.”
A mother who reached out to the support line shared, “I honestly don’t know what I’d do without the Children First support line.”
Parents and carers in Scotland who are worried about their child’s mental health can contact the Children First support line at 08000 28 22 33, or visit their website at childrenfirst.org.uk for advice and support. The team is available seven days a week.
For further information, visit Children First’s official website or reach out to their support line for expert guidance.
