Researchers in Japan have developed a cutting-edge hybrid nanotube (HyNT) stamp system for intracellular protein delivery, revolutionizing cancer treatment. This innovative technique, led by Professor Takeo Miyake at Waseda University in collaboration with the Mikawa Group at the RIKEN Institute, offers high efficiency and cell viability rates.
The HyNT stamp system enables precise injection of therapeutic proteins into target cells, addressing limitations of conventional delivery methods. By directly transferring proteins, it bypasses issues such as transcription silencing and DNA mutation risks.
The research, published in Analytical Chemistry, showcases the system’s capability in delivering diverse cargoes, including enzymes and proteins, directly into adhesive cells. Particularly noteworthy is the successful delivery of lactate oxidase (LOx) enzyme into cancerous cells, leading to significant cell death while sparing healthy cells.
Furthermore, the system’s ability to deliver UQ proteins for molecular analysis demonstrates its versatility and effectiveness. Optical imaging confirmed the presence of delivered proteins in cells, highlighting the system’s precision and reliability.
With a delivery efficiency of 89.9% and a cell viability rate of 97.1%, the HyNT stamp system offers transformative potential in cancer therapy and molecular research. Its applications extend beyond medicine to agriculture and food industries, promising advancements in various fields.
