Trixie Isla-Velez is not just shaping bodies; she is transforming lives. As the co-founder and director of Hong Kong-based boutique fitness studio DEFIN8 Fitness, Isla-Velez is redefining what it means to be truly healthy. For her, fitness extends beyond physical strength—it is a lifelong commitment to movement, personal growth, and overcoming challenges.

With a strong belief in the importance of “moving with purpose,” Isla-Velez draws from her extensive experience as an award-winning fitness instructor to help clients achieve peak physical performance. For her, fitness is not simply a lifestyle choice but a dedication to personal excellence and well-being.

In addition to her professional achievements, Isla-Velez balances the roles of wife, mother, and entrepreneur. Her commitment to health extends beyond fitness, focusing on longevity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “My mission is to create a supportive community where everyone can achieve their fitness goals in a safe, effective way,” she shares. “This involves not only strength but also mobility, particularly as we age. To live pain-free, fitness must be a priority.”

At DEFIN8 Fitness, Isla-Velez offers a variety of services including Pilates, personal training, Gyrotonic, and physical rehabilitation. She believes that regular exercise is vital for stress management and a positive outlook. “When I prioritize fitness, I am more focused and energized, which significantly enhances my overall quality of life,” Isla-Velez explains. She emphasizes that fitness is not just about physical strength but also about cultivating a strong, resilient mindset.

A Personal Journey to Health

Isla-Velez’s path to fitness and health was not always straightforward. As a young girl, she struggled with body image issues, often feeling insecure after being teased for being “fat.” Her initial motivation for working out was driven by a desire to lose weight and improve her appearance. In her teenage years, she secretly used her parents’ elliptical and other exercise machines when they were away. She also battled eating disorders, including bulimia, which persisted into her college years.

However, Isla-Velez’s perspective began to shift when she enrolled in a gym in college, determined to take control of her insecurities. The birth of her first child marked a turning point in her relationship with fitness. She no longer viewed exercise solely as a means of achieving a certain physique but as a holistic approach to overall well-being. “I want to be strong and live long for my family, and continue doing what I love for many years to come,” she says. Her focus now includes not just strength, but mobility and flexibility as integral components of fitness.

Turning Adversity into Opportunity

Isla-Velez’s resilience in the face of adversity has been a defining aspect of her journey. She lives by the mantra, “When opportunities don’t arise, create one for yourself.” Reflecting on times when she faced rejection or felt looked down upon because of her background, Isla-Velez says, “I used my passion, skills, and hard work to create opportunities for myself and prove my worth.”

Her experiences have shaped her advice for others who wish to pursue fitness. “Start with small, achievable goals and find activities you genuinely enjoy,” Isla-Velez suggests. She stresses the importance of seeking professional guidance and taking a personalized approach to fitness. “Remember that fitness is a personal journey, and it’s essential to be patient with yourself. Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small, and stay committed to your well-being.”

Isla-Velez’s approach to fitness—focused on longevity, mobility, and mental strength—offers a comprehensive roadmap for those seeking to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Through her work at DEFIN8 Fitness, she continues to inspire others to embrace the transformative power of fitness.
