FWD’s Leadership Program for Women in the Philippines
FWD Philippines recently completed the first phase of its women leadership program, called “Cultivating Women Leadership, Innovation, and Future Excellence” (FWD LIFE). The program is a first in the Philippine insurance market and is designed to provide professional development support for women in the insurance industry.
The initiative is in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) and offers training in leadership strategy, networking, and goal-driven management. This aligns with broader industry efforts to increase gender representation in executive positions. According to a 2024 report by the Philippine Women’s Empowerment Business Alliance, women hold 40% of executive positions in publicly listed companies, and the number of leadership roles on operational teams has increased.
Vita Guillen, Chief Talent and Culture Officer of FWD Philippines, emphasized the purpose of the program: “As an insurance company for the next generation, FWD believes in breaking barriers and creating opportunities for everyone. This program highlights the value of female participation—not only for equality but for the broader perspectives and positive contributions they bring. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of female leaders who will continue to shape a more inclusive future for the local insurance industry.”
Marian Lleander, AIM Project Director, noted that the collaboration marks a milestone, as AIM has never before developed a leadership program specifically for a single organization. She added, “FWD’s partnership with AIM speaks to the company’s commitment to the growth and empowerment of its female leaders.”
Expanding Health Plans in the Greater Bay Area
In Hong Kong, FWD has introduced new medical insurance solutions to cater to the growing demand for cross-border healthcare services in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), which includes Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China.
The new plans, the GBAssure Outpatient Plan and NobleCare Premier Medical Plan, are designed for residents frequently traveling between these regions. The GBAssure Outpatient Plan offers coverage for general medical consultations, traditional Chinese medicine, mental health services, and diagnostic procedures. It includes a family-wide coverage option, requires no health screening, and can be managed through FWD’s digital platform.
The NobleCare Premier Medical Plan targets high-net-worth individuals, offering lifetime international health coverage with flexible treatment options and access to over 300 top-tier hospitals. It features full hospital and surgical coverage and a cashless admission system. The plan can be renewed until the policyholder reaches 101 years of age.
Ken Lau, CEO of FWD Hong Kong and Managing Director of Greater China, explained that these new offerings address the rising healthcare demands in the GBA. FWD is also expanding its partnership with HKSH Medical Group to provide cancer patients with enhanced support, including remote consultations and case management by specialized nursing staff.
FWD’s 2024 claims data revealed that 71% of its critical illness claims were related to cancer, highlighting the need for such services. Additional offerings include second-opinion consultations, personalized treatment plans, and nutritional guidance for cancer patients.
Dr. Walton Li, Chief Executive of HKSH Medical Group, emphasized the role of new technologies, such as proton therapy, in enabling cross-border clinical support.
These strategic moves reflect FWD’s ongoing commitment to enhancing leadership opportunities for women and expanding healthcare access in Asia.
