OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has issued a warning urging consumers to discard any products from the brand “Diamond Shruumz” due to severe illnesses reported across the country after consumption of their microdosing edibles.
At least 58 individuals in 27 states have fallen seriously ill, with 30 cases resulting in hospitalizations, including instances of seizures and loss of consciousness. In Washington State’s Grant County alone, one case of severe illness has been confirmed.
Diamond Shruumz products, which include chocolates, gummies, and cones, were available for purchase online, at smoke/vape shops, and other stores selling hemp-derived items. Concerningly, these products may contain unidentified substances, such as Muscimol, commonly found in Amanita muscaria mushrooms known for their toxic and psychoactive properties.
Although Diamond Shruumz issued a recall on June 27, some products may still be on store shelves. Consumers are strongly advised to destroy any Diamond Shruumz products they possess and contact the company for a refund.
Earlier this month, six individuals were hospitalized after consuming Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars, incidents reported in Arizona, Indiana, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. Symptoms associated with these products, and potentially similar mushroom-containing items, include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, irregular heart rate, blood pressure fluctuations, respiratory issues, hallucinations, and other severe effects up to coma.
If affected by Diamond Shruumz or similar products, individuals are urged to contact the Washington Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222. Those experiencing severe symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
The Washington State DOH, in conjunction with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), continues to caution the public regarding the dangers posed by microdosing products containing undisclosed or harmful substances.
