TikTok sensation Bella Thomson, known to her fans as Bella Brave, has been placed in a medically induced coma after experiencing a severe health crisis. The 10-year-old’s mother, Kyla Thomson, shared the news via Instagram on July 10, confirming that Bella is currently stable, which she described as an improvement.
In earlier posts, Kyla disclosed that Bella was hospitalized due to a viral lung infection and is suspected of having developed Bronchiolitis Obliterans (BO). Kyla explained that treatment for BO involves high doses of steroids, but this approach carries risks, including the potential exacerbation of Bella’s existing viral infection, which could jeopardize her life.
Kyla’s update highlighted a concerning decline in Bella’s lung condition, noting, “They believe it could be an immune response.” Doctors are puzzled by the rapid deterioration observed post-bone marrow transplant. They are evaluating a treatment plan that involves administering large doses of steroids, with expectations for improvement to be assessed on the third day of treatment.
Kyla emphasized the importance of emotional support, stating that she and her husband, Lyle Thomson, are comforting Bella by speaking to her, playing her favorite music, and reading messages from well-wishers. She expressed her hope that they have intervened in time to halt further lung damage, describing the waiting period as “beyond unbearable.”
In a previous update on July 9, Kyla revealed that Bella was stable but intubated in the ICU. She shared that Bella’s condition worsened, leading to delirium while receiving steroid treatment. Kyla conveyed that medical teams faced challenges in expanding Bella’s lungs, though there was no visible damage from infection.
Bella and her mother have cultivated a significant social media presence, with 7 million followers on TikTok and over 337,000 on Instagram, by sharing their journey with Bella’s multiple health conditions, including Hirschsprung’s disease.
