A personal training studio in Salisbury is celebrating rapid growth by hiring its sixth trainer just 500 days after opening.
Founded in December 2023 by Alan Reilly, The Workout Lab on Brown Street has grown from a two-person team to a six-trainer studio serving approximately 150 clients weekly. The latest addition is Ellie Cooper, a sport and exercise science graduate and Midlands time trial cycling champion.
Reilly, a personal trainer for 15 years before launching his own business, said he seized the opportunity after spotting the studio space on Rightmove. “I always wanted to set up my own studio, but it’s quite a big jump. It’s grown relatively fast,” he said.
Among the team is Joel Pettyfer, a former professional wrestler and the first WWE NXT tag team champion. The trainers offer bespoke one-to-one and small-group sessions, tailoring fitness and nutrition programs to individual needs including age, lifestyle, and injury history.
Trainer Scott Norris highlighted that while some clients have achieved competitive success—such as a bench press British record—others attend for mental health and general wellbeing. “We have lots of clients who have transformed their lives. It’s a nice environment. It does feel like, rather than having one trainer, you’ve got the group of all of us,” Norris said.
