A prominent figure in the fitness domain has strongly criticized the Prime energy drink, endorsed by Logan Paul and KSI, labeling it as their “most lucrative deception yet.”
James Smith, a fitness expert, scrutinized the scientific basis of hydration and asserted that despite the beverage’s official sponsorship of prominent entities like UFC, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Barcelona, both Paul and KSI lack comprehension of the fundamental principles of hydration.
Elaborating on the mechanics of rehydration, Smith underscored the significance of water and sodium in combating dehydration.
Smith elaborated, stating, “If you’re engaged in a sport where substantial water and salt loss occurs and you replenish solely with water, you’ll eventually create an adverse sodium imbalance.”
While elucidating the importance of replenishing electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, Smith accentuated the primacy of sodium replenishment.
He proceeded to juxtapose the offering of Prime with other prominent brands, revealing that Prime contains a mere 5mg of sodium, albeit boasting an impressive 700mg of potassium. On the contrary, Powerade contains 168mg of sodium and 200mg of potassium.
Smith posed a question: “Given that our primary loss during sweating is water and salt, which of the two options—Prime or Powerade—do you believe excels in replenishing the sodium deficit?”
These remarks followed Prime’s defense against criticism concerning the caffeine content in their beverages.
Notably, health experts had previously urged the US Food and Drug Administration to investigate the energy drink company.
A 12 oz can of Prime, co-founded by YouTube luminaries Logan Paul and KSI, contains 200mg of caffeine, equating to approximately half a dozen cans of Coke or nearly two Red Bulls.
