A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Tammy Warren and her son Cody from Trenton, who are facing a challenging medical ordeal. Cody’s health took a sudden turn on June 22 when he was admitted to the Emergency Room with symptoms initially thought to be pericarditis.
According to friend Kelly Forbes, who initiated the fundraiser, Cody’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Within days, it was discovered that he had a perforated esophagus and subsequently developed a severe infection that required emergency surgery at Kingston General Hospital (KGH). Despite efforts, Cody was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, commonly known as flesh-eating bacteria, necessitating further surgeries to remove infected tissue.
“The situation has been dire,” Forbes stated. “The infection has spread to areas around Cody’s lung and heart, posing significant challenges.” Currently, Cody remains on a ventilator, with doctors closely monitoring his progress. He has also experienced considerable weight loss and is receiving nutrition through a feeding tube.
Forbes emphasized the financial strain on the family, particularly with Tammy taking compassionate leave from work to support Cody’s recovery and manage ongoing medical expenses. “The costs are mounting,” Forbes explained, “and the support from the community is crucial during this difficult time.”
The GoFundMe campaign, which aims to raise $10,000, has garnered significant support, with donations totaling $5,100 from 57 contributors as of Monday morning. Forbes expressed gratitude for the outpouring of generosity and urged continued support to help alleviate the financial burden on the Warren family.
“We appreciate any assistance, both financially and emotionally,” Forbes said. “This family has been through immense challenges, and every contribution makes a meaningful difference.”
