The BBC has confirmed that Graziano Di Prima, a prominent dancer on its hit show Strictly Come Dancing, will be leaving the program following allegations of “gross misconduct” involving one of his celebrity partners.
Di Prima announced his departure via Instagram, expressing regret over the circumstances leading to his exit. He acknowledged that his passion for competition may have impacted his training and stated, “Respecting the BBC HR process, I understand that it’s best for the show that I step away.” He added that there are aspects of the situation he cannot discuss but emphasized his commitment to his family and friends. Di Prima concluded with gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career and hinted that he would share more about his experience in the future.
According to The Sun, the BBC decided to terminate Di Prima’s contract after reviewing video evidence that allegedly depicted the Italian dancer kicking his partner, Zara McDermott. The publication also suggested that additional incidents of physical aggression had occurred.
While the BBC did not comment specifically on Di Prima’s case, a spokesperson reiterated the organization’s commitment to its duty of care procedures, stating, “If issues are raised, we will always take them seriously and act swiftly as appropriate.”
Di Prima’s departure adds to the challenges faced by Strictly Come Dancing, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and remains one of the UK’s most beloved entertainment exports, with international versions of the show airing worldwide.
In a related development, dancer Giovanni Pernice has also announced his exit after actress Amanda Abbington alleged that she experienced PTSD due to their training sessions. Pernice has denied any inappropriate conduct, and the BBC’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
