Jamie Foxx, the 56-year-old actor, has shared more details about the mysterious illness that led to his hospitalization last April. Foxx recounted the early days of his health scare in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, by The Art of the Dialogue.
“Look, April 11th last year,” Foxx began, speaking to a group at an outdoor café in Phoenix, “I had a bad headache. I asked my boy for an Advil.” He snapped his fingers and continued, “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
Foxx detailed how his sister, Deidra Dixon, and daughter, Corinne Foxx, played crucial roles during the ordeal. “They told me — I’m in Atlanta — so they told me my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor,” he said.
Describing the medical intervention he received, Foxx mentioned, “They gave me a cortisone shot.” According to the Mayo Clinic, a cortisone injection is used to “relieve pain, swelling, and irritation.” Foxx then recounted the follow-up consultation: “The next doctor said something’s going on up there,” pointing to his head.
Although he refrained from elaborating further on camera, Foxx’s comments elicited laughter from the audience. The video concluded with Foxx trailing off and shrugging.
Foxx has previously credited his sister Deidra with saving his life during the health crisis. In an Instagram post, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “Without you, I would not be here… had you not made the decisions that you made, I would’ve lost my life.”
The actor recently resumed hosting duties on the FOX competition show “Beat Shazam” after his illness forced him to miss season 6. Additionally, Foxx hinted at a return to stand-up comedy, where he plans to share more about his experience.
